WEAREHERE!

#WEAREHERE! : HOW LANGUAGE INFLUENCES OUR PERCEPTION OF OTHERNESS

DRAG ME UP Queer Art Festival // THIRD EDITION

This project is the winner of the
“Contemporaneamente Roma 2020 – 2021 – 2022” public competition

The QUEER world is placed at the centre of the contemporary scene with all its strength and expressive value: Drag, Pop, Performing Art, Cabaret, Stand-up comedy, Theatre… an event in which Raffaella Carrà’s graceful dance moves coexist with the works of Bertold Brecht, the showgirl and the diva, the words of great authors and the experiences of a life packed with meaning.

A colourful and tongue-in-cheek universe of images that interact with other images, of songs that become stories, of voices torn from one context only to be made blossom brighter than before in another.

#WEAREHERE

THE THEME OF THE THIRD EDITION OF DRAG ME UP IS:

#WEAREHERE! How language influences our perception of Otherness

The 2022 edition of the festival will investigate the theme of identity, observed from multiple perspectives: identity as self-awareness, identity as belonging and identity as self-affirmation.

After the success of the first two editions of the festival, DRAG ME UP 2022 continues its mission of eradicating binarism, and not only gender binarism. The aim of the festival, therefore, is the elimination of Manichean classifications in order to enter a new era, which includes all forms of being without the need to use labels or stereotypes.

The concept of language itself will be questioned and interpreted in all its multiple aspects. How does our context build our identity? How can we navigate through genres and languages? This third edition of the festival is an attempt to free ourselves from a way of thinking based on radical dualism. It will do so by considering different ways we might experience our individual identity(-ies). Identities that are capable of choosing and determining themselves beyond clear-cut divisions.
